Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital has been part of the Denver community since 1954 and has been an AAHA-certified hospital since 1963. We are a general practice, referral/specialty practice and a twenty-four hour emergency/critical care hospital all housed in a new 37,000 square foot state of the art veterinary facility that we moved into in March 2017.
Our hospital has seven surgical suites (some with great views of the mountains). We have a full in house diagnostic laboratory. We have a fantastic group of highly trained staff with excellent energy and work ethic. We have a strong team dynamic that makes the work environment fun.
Our amazing team includes specialists in Emergency/Critical Care anesthesia, neurology, surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, sports medicine, ophthalmology, oncology, dermatology, emergency, and general practice. We have an intensive care unit, state of the art physical therapy suite, and a large conference room with a veterinary library and online access to a variety of journals.
Wheat Ridge is located in a western suburb of Denver, Colorado. The greater Denver metropolitan area provides various cultural, social and sporting events and the Rocky Mountains provide a variety of outdoor activities year round.

We are an AAHA Accredited Referral Hospital
The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) is the only organization that accredits veterinary practices in the United States and Canada. Practices that accept the challenge of accreditation are evaluated on stringent quality standards that encompass all aspects of veterinary medicine—from pain management and patient care to team training and medical record keeping. A portosytemic shunt (PSS) is an abnormal blood vessel that carries blood intended to flow through the liver and diverts it away from the liver to the general circulation. The portal system is a special network of blood vessels that collect blood and metabolic byproducts from many of the abdominal organs and allows passage of that blood through the liver to remove some harmful substances and derive nutrition from others. When the portal system is bypassed by a shunt, the blood flows unfiltered back to the heart and is circulated to the body, including the brain.
